Last year, Blake Girls Hockey junior goaltender Janie McGawn hit a career milestone of 1000 career saves. For McGawn, this was only the beginning. She is set to hit 1500 saves before the end of 2024 and continuously proving that her journey is far from over.
Janie’s playing style is nothing short of dynamic, known to thrive under pressure. Whether it’s a point-blank shot from the slot in the dying seconds of a game or a diving save on a breakaway. McGawn stands tall in the crease, unfazed by the intensity of the moment. Her fearless style allows the team to stay in any game, no matter how tough the opponent, and it gives her teammates the confidence to play their best in front of her.
Her leadership extends beyond just stopping pucks. As a junior, McGawn has taken on the role of Assistant Captain. Helping lead the team both on and off the ice. The Bears are off to a 3-1 start and take on #4 AA Holy Family on Saturday.
